The Power Of Staying Focused

There’s a lot of noise in the world. If we let it social media will amplify it.

If we let it, it will amplify until you realise that’s it taking all your time. That you’ve spent hours scrolling through comments.

Hours you could have spent improving yourself, helping others, bringing something positive to the world.

Distractions are just that. They distract us from our purpose.

How often have you started a day clear on your goals, only to lose your way in a news story, on a conversation, in social media?

It’s all too easy and we’ve all done it. In fact I’m writing this post because it’s just happened to me.

I’ve let what’s happening in the world in, and suddenly I’m stumbling for my own goals, my own purpose. It’s so easy to do.

I’m NOT saying don’t be aware of what’s going on. I’m NOT saying don’t stand up for what you believe in (DO!), but be aware if doing that is taking you too far from your path.

It might feel good, it might feel right, it might even feel rewarding, but if it’s taking your focus away from what you need to achieve, you need to rebalance.

You see we all have a purpose, a goal. Some of us know it, some of us think we know it, some of us haven’t found it yet (and that’s okay, there’s no time limit on this).

When we are on purpose, when we connect with our goals, get into flow, then magic happens.

Some people struggle with this, feeling it’s selfish. Well, the majority of people I know that know their purpose generally have one or two aims, sometimes both:

– They want to better themselves someway

– They want to help others someway

That’s not selfish. Even the first one. Why?

Because when we better ourselves we show up better for other people. In fact, in my experience, treading the path of self-self-improvement almost makes it inevitable that you transition to helping others.

So many of our clients have gone on to become personal trainers, nutritionists, mindfulness coaches, volunteer at charities…

Ask yourself. Who is it serving if I am distracted from my purpose?

Will I feel better about myself? Am I going to keep on showing up as well for myself (and others) each day if I tread off my path onto another?

Try this. Each morning when you look in the mirror, ask yourself these three questions:

– How am I going to better myself today?

– How am I going to help others today?

– How do I choose to show up in the world today to make it a better place?

If you start the day with the intention of bettering yourself, helping others, and showing up for good in the world, then you won’t go far wrong.
