You know the thing that trips us up over and over again? Our own beliefs about ourselves.
Henry Ford famously said, “whether you think you can, or you think you can’t, you’re right.”
When we attempt something new, go for a big goal, move out of our comfort zone. it’s often not our ability to perform that lets us down, but our self-belief.
So how do you go about changing your beliefs about your abilities? This is something we work with on clients, and while it takes time, it’s totally possible.
You’ll find once your beliefs are aligned with your actions geared to your goal, you’ll become unstoppable.
One hack I’d like to share with you today is that of awareness.
Often we’ll get caught up in our thought patterns and let them dictate our feelings and actions. However our thoughts are not us, and stepping back to view them can be extremely helpful in bringing awareness to our belief, and challenging it.
Next time you start to hear your inner critic telling you that you can’t because of X, Y, Z…. simply thank it, and ask yourself, “Is it really true?”
When your thoughts are saying, “You always muck this up…. you’re a terrible friend… you’ll never succeed…”
Challenge your sub-conscious by asking if it’s really true.
You’ll be surprised, because you’ll find that actually, no, it’s not true, and there will be lots of examples where you have succeeded, have achieved, have come through that dark night of the soul.
Once we’re aware, we can start making changes. So start asking yourself, is it really true?
