You know what? Growth is tough. If it was easy we’d all be super-actualised beings living perfect lives. We’re not because self-improvement is hard, and it takes time.
All too often the road is too hard and we stumble: the overeating, the over doing the drinking, skipping the mindset, dropping the workout.
What happens? We start beating ourselves up. Our inner-critic rejoices telling us “See, you can’t do it.”
If we give into that then we won’t succeed, but if accept what it’s saying, acknowledge and decide to move forward anyway, then we’re actually building new neural pathways and we will change the voice of the inner-critic over time as we establish new beliefs and behaviours.
Sometimes being human is hard enough. Don’t make it harder by beating yourself up or focusing on the “should of…”
We all stumble. It’s what we do next that counts.
Focus on that, dust yourself off, and get going.
It won’t always be easy, but the rewards will be worth it.
