If the answer to any or all of those is “yes” then you’ll be pleased to know that you only need to do one simple thing to get these benefits…
Start regular resistance training!
As we age we naturally lose muscle mass, so of course we get weaker, but muscle is also metabolically active, meaning that the less we have, the lower our metabolic rate and the more likely we are to store excess energy as body fat.
A study of 80,000 people by The American Journal of Epidemiology found that strength training reduces risk of death from all causes by 23 percent and the risk of death from cancer by 31 percent, yet currently only around 5% of the total adult population do regular strength training.
You don’t need a gym, the results are not just physical. but there’s a positive mental and emotional impact across multipole measures, and it doesn’t need to take up much of your time.
I’ll leave you with this…the evidence shows that if you’re not regularly resistance training then you’re lack of action is contributing to a more rapid degradation of your health and an increased mortality risk…
So, do you want to live longer and be healthier and happier? Or are you settling for the not so pretty alternative…
