Why We Need To Start Recognising Age Diversity As A Key To Workplace Success
So often I see clients disillusioned with their roles as they feel their roles or organisations are no longer aligned with their values, and worse, I see people let go, who then struggle to find another role despite a wealth of experience.
And in today’s fast paced, instant solution world, it’s easy to overlook one of the most valuable assets in any organization: experience.
Yet, older employees often face biases that prevent them from fully contributing to their teams in the way they’d like.
Here’s the truth:
👉 Experienced workers bring institutional knowledge, mentorship capabilities, and a steady hand in high-pressure situations.
👉 Companies with age-diverse teams see higher productivity and better decision-making.
But ageism persists, with skilled professionals being overlooked for promotions or forced into early retirement. It’s the last acceptable “-ism”.
It’s time we flip the narrative.
Experience isn’t just useful—it’s essential.
If we’re serious about creating inclusive workplaces, tackling ageism must be be on the DEI agenda, along with actively working on inter-generational communication.
I’d love to hear your thoughts.
