Are Your Beliefs Killing Your Success?

Here’s the interesting thing about our beliefs… often they’re not even ours yet they dictate our behaviour and even our success in life – how crazy is that?
You see we often form our beliefs in childhood based on either our parents’ beliefs or our own child-centric interpretation of our parents’ behaviour towards us. Chances are that if we see our parents struggle to get by while working hard, and they tell us that life is a struggle and that you have to work hard just to stay afloat, then we’ll carry that belief forward into adulthood.
What that means is that our mind will filter what we experience now, today, through the filter of beliefs that were formed when we weren’t even really capable of critical thinking.
The result is that we hold ourselves back in life. You see the reality we experience is defined by the framework of those beliefs, so we keep pinging between the past and the present and repeating old pattens, often to our intense frustration.
Here’s where we can empower ourselves….
Recognise the beliefs weren’t ours to begin with – we didn’t consciously choose them
Recognise that our beliefs aren’t “true” they’re merely a construct – so we have the right to question them
Recognise that are beliefs can be changed – if our existing beliefs aren’t serving us, it’s time to upgrade the software
Here’s the truth bomb…
You can take all the action you want towards your goals, but if you don’t believe you can achieve and sustain those goals, then you won’t succeed over the long term.
So, if your current beliefs aren’t aligned with who you want to be, it’s time to start working on them so you can have the success you desire. This can show up in so many ways: self-sabotage, procrastination, indecision, anxiety, fear, avoidance, swinging between all or nothing….the list goes on.Our beliefs can be debilitating to our progress, but knowing how to rewire them sets you up for success in every area of your life.
We covered this in our live workshop last night and there were so many a-ha moments from the attendees, and we’ll be deep diving into this further next week when we look at self-sabotage and how to overcome it.If you’d like to learn more about beliefs and how to change them, or just want support with your goals, or even just a chat, then reach out.
