Does Life Feel Tough?

Life is going to give us a kicking sometimes.

Particularly at midlife it can feel like an onslaught.

?? Pressures at work.

??Finances.

?? Family issues.

?? Maybe break ups or divorce.

?? Moving home.

?? Children flying the nest

We’re going to experience loss, grief, pain, failure, stress.

A lot of it we CAN’T control.

But some things we CAN.

….such as how we treat ourselves.

Sadly (and understandably) many of us….

? Reach for the wine to escape – even if it’s just for a moment.

? Comfort eat to numb our emotions.

?Scroll on social media to switch off and then compare ourselves to others.

? Hit snooze because we can’t face the day and we’re too knackered to get up.

?…and we watch TV, which is full of negative subliminal messaging.

The common denominator is that it all makes what we’re experiencing WORSE….in the long run.

So my advice is to check in with yourself and regardless of what’s going on for you right now, ask:

What can I take control of that will help me deal with this a little easier?

Swap the take aways for healthier meals so my gut health, energy, sleep and mood improves.

Avoid the wine, because it’s a depressant.

Move my body because it releases feel good endorphins.

Cut back on sugar which causes inflammation in my body and lowers my immune system.

Stop watching the news which just fills we with dread and anxiety.

Put my phone away when I get home so I can relax and spend time with those I love.

None of this is a quick fix. And it’s not always easy.

But when life is throwing you about…

….I promise, grabbing back some of YOUR power and control in whatever way you can (and sticking with it), will help you feel better, more resilient and more accepting of what’s going on…
