The Barriers Preventing You Living The Life You Want

And how to move past them…

Let’s face it, there are likely to be loads of reasons you’re not living the life you really want to, but let’s focus on what’s going to move the dial the furthest and fastest…

You’re not changing your behaviour and where you are now is a direct result of your behaviours.

Underpinning that are your beliefs. So what are the barriers to changing your beliefs and behaviours and what can you do about them?

Well, here are 7 barriers and the actions to overcome them:

  1. Your goal just isn’t important enough to you – you don’t have an emotional connection to it, so there’s low motivation for change.Action: Either pick a new goal that is emotionally important to you or deep dive into the real emotional result of your goal and really connect to that, so that succeeding matters to you.

  2. You don’t believe in yourself to succeed. This one’s natural, we have trouble seeing ourselves achieve things we’ve never achieved, but you flip it. Action: Remind yourself of similar goals you have succeeded at, and look for evidence, has someone else achieved it? Then you can too.

  3. You don’t believe in the process. This is the old “sure it worked for them but will it work for me”, again, flip it, why wouldn’t it work for you if it’s worked for a load of other people.Action: Sometimes it is just about trusting and following a proven process or methodology.

  4. You’re not prioritising yourself and your goal -aka life gets in the way.Action: Give yourself permission to prioritise yourself and your goal, plan your schedule around the actions you need to achieve, let those around you know this is important to you so they respect your time, energy and boundaries on doing what you need to do to succeed.

  5. You’re not sure of the steps or skills you need.Action: Get clear – get a coach, get a mentor, get into a community that will support you. Get support to make an actionable plan that has accountability built in.

  6. You’re not actioning your plan consistently. If you’re not taking action, you won’t have belief. Action: Track your metrics. stay accountable, record and remind yourself of the performance level you need to achieve your goal. Place reminders where you’ll see them, reward yourself for completion of steps.

  7. You’re not playing it forward. Your subconscious will always choose the path of least resistance, taking you back to where you were and where it feels “safe”. Only that’s not going to get you to your goal. Action: When you’re faltering play it forward – what do you want tomorrow to look like? How will today’s actions (or lack of) impact your progress. Are you moving towards or away from your goal? Practice what I call future rehearsal daily, visualising yourself having achieved your goal, which primes your subconscious for just that outcome.

Here’s a bonus point if you’re struggling. You can borrow belief. Find someone that’s done what you want to do. Connect with them, have them support you. When the going gets tough lean on them, borrow their belief in the outcome.

This is how we support our clients to transform their lives.
