Unpopular Post Warning: Why A Victim Mentality Can Be Reassuring But Doesn’t Serve You

If you’re 40 plus then chances are you’re going to have stresses and struggles in your life. Everything from your career, to finances, to relationships, to weight gain, low energy…

A lot of this is outside your control of at least influenced by external factors BUT a big difference I see is between people that let those outside circumstances shoulder the blame and those that acknowledge what’s going on but step up to take action and retake control of their lives.

Here’s the thing, being a victim is comforting. It means nothing is you fault. Life has transpired against you. I get it, I really do and we all feel like that sometimes.

However, if you take this world view then two things are going to happen:

you’re going to stay stuck where you are
more bad stuff is going to happen to you

Yep, I said it. We’re energetic beings and if we’re stuck in a cycle of victimhood then psychologically we’ll reinforce it and project it to the world.

If you divorce from your responsibilities, you lose your responsibility, and if you’re not responsible you can’t make changes.

Life can be hard, no doubt, but your reaction to it is what counts.

To paraphrase Rocky Balboa, “Life isn’t about how hard you can hit, but about how hard you can get hit and keep getting up. About how much you can take and keep going forward. That’s how winning is done.”

And that’s what winners do. They acknowledge, adapt, and keep moving forward.

Look around you. Where you are now is a direct result of the actions you’ve taken or haven’t taken in your life. Don’t like it? Act different and change it.

Stepping up and taking responsibility, dropping that protective cloak of being a victim can be uncomfortable, but in the long run not as uncomfortable as staying stuck where you are.

So, do you want to reclaim your power? Do you want to live a remarkable life? Do you want to live your purpose and feel fulfilled?

Then get up, move forward and embrace the opportunities life gives you every day.

If you need help doing that, then reach out, this is what we do, help the 2% that want to be exceptional. Who want more than just enough.
